How Lunar Phases Influence Your Tarot Readings

There’s a part of ourselves we’re often taught to avoid. It’s uncomfortable. It’s angry. It’s the part that remembers pain, reacts impulsively, and holds shame, guilt, or fear. At Lilith, we don’t exile that part—we invite it in.

This is the heart of shadow work.

What Is the “Shadow”? The term comes from Carl Jung, who defined the shadow as the unconscious aspects of the personality we disown—traits we’ve deemed unacceptable, dangerous, or “not us.” These aspects don’t disappear. They get repressed, only to show up later in projections, defense mechanisms, or sudden emotional outbursts.

Why It Matters in Therapy Modern psychotherapy increasingly acknowledges the importance of integrating these hidden parts of ourselves. Whether you call it inner child work, trauma integration, or shadow work, the process involves turning inward with curiosity, not judgment.

Ignoring the shadow often leads to:

Sabotaged relationships

Cycles of shame

Chronic anxiety or depression

Emotional reactivity

By bringing shadow into consciousness, we open the door to healing.

What Shadow Work Looks Like at Lilith At Lilith, shadow work isn’t about spiritual bypassing or mystical theatrics. It’s about safely exploring the unconscious with scientifically informed tools:

Internal Family Systems (IFS) to meet and integrate inner parts

Jungian-informed dream work

Somatic awareness practices to notice how shadow lives in the body

Guided reflection and art-based interventions

We help clients develop insight while staying grounded in the body and the present moment.

Science Meets Soul Yes, shadow work can be spiritual. It’s also deeply psychological. The fusion of the two—when done safely—can be transformative. That’s why Lilith integrates evidence-based practices with the spaciousness needed for existential inquiry and meaning-making.

Healing is not about becoming someone else. It’s about becoming more fully yourself—shadow and all.
